5th Grade Scavenger Hunt HW

Back to School Night

Thanks to all who came out to our 5th grade Back to School Night.  We know it was a lot of information and we appreciate you being there to support your child.   The link below has the slideshow as a PDF with information.  This one is from Mrs. Mena & Mrs. Escamilla, so if you have a different 5th grade teacher some slides might be different, but the core of the curriculum and expectations is the same for everyone.

Week of January 10th to January 13th

Happy New Year and welcome to Quarter 3!

Welcome back.  We hope you all had a restful break and were able to spend quality time with family and friends.

Here are a few reminders and highlights for this week:

  • Tomorrow is a minimum day.
  • We will begin Chapter 7 in math this week with our Pretest and instructional focus of multiplying fractions.
  • Our American Revolution unit will begin this week and we look specifically at the causes and effects that led to the revolution and the development of the United States.
  • Our read aloud for this quarter will be Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson. This powerful novel takes readers into New York during the revolution and is the story of a slave girl and her fight for freedom.  Her is a brief blurb of this compelling story:
    • If an entire nation could seek its freedom, why not a girl?

As the Revolutionary War begins, thirteen-year-old Isabel wages her own fight…for freedom. Promised freedom upon the death of their owner, she and her sister, Ruth, in a cruel twist of fate become the property of a malicious New York City couple, the Locktons, who have no sympathy for the American Revolution and even less for Ruth and Isabel. When Isabel meets Curzon, a slave with ties to the Patriots, he encourages her to spy on her owners, who know details of British plans for invasion. She is reluctant at first, but when the unthinkable happens to Ruth, Isabel realizes her loyalty is available to the bidder who can provide her with freedom.

From acclaimed author Laurie Halse Anderson comes this compelling, impeccably researched novel that shows the lengths we can go to cast off our chains, both physical and spiritual.

  • In Science we will focus on Earth Systems and how all four systems interact with each other

We are excited for Quarter 3 and can’t wait to get started!  Keep checking the blog for updates and information throughout Quarter 3!

Week of November 28th to December 2nd

Hello Parents! Can you believe it’s almost December? This year is certainly flying by! Here are a few reminders for this week:

  • Please make sure all basket items for your class basket are in by Wednesday.  Each class has their own unique theme and your child’s teacher should have contacted you regarding this.  We need all items no later than Wednesday so the baskets are ready by Friday.
  • BizTown is Wednesday! We are so excited for this trip. Make sure your child is ready to go and has a lunch packed for the day.  Also, our parent volunteers will need to be there early to prepare for the busy day.  Those parents have been notified and should know what time they need to be there.
  • Winter Wonderland is December 2nd.  This is a wonderful family event with many exciting things to see! Please look at the Camarena blog for more specific information about this fun event.

We will have a very busy three weeks ahead as we prepare for the end of Quarter 2. Students will be busy working and taking assessments for this reporting period.  It is important that they are here everyday ready to learn. We look forward to ending 2016 strong!
